September 23 - 28 is the Pet Battle Bonus Event. If you're not sure what that entails, Wowhead (as always) has a fantastic rundown up on their site.

The short version is, that for the duration of the holiday, when you level companion pets in pet battles, they earn triple the amount of XP.
